On April 6th, a US Army helicopter from F/159th Aviation Regiment went down in Afghanistan — 18 servicemen and women lost their lives. It was an instant and horrific, life-changing experience for these soldiers' families and a devastating blow to the unit,
Five years after the accident, soldiers from the unit started a foundation called the Windy25 Memorial Fund (Windy25 being the call-sign of the aircraft), an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) organization, in an effort to recognize the sacrifices of these heroes and give their families the ability to join together and honor their loved ones' life legacy. The Fund works tirelessly to raise money and awareness for these incredible families, in tribute to those we lost. Through our annual family weekend event held in Las Vegas, and ongoing fundraising activities, we have raised over $1.2M that has gone directly to services and programs that support these families in their darkest of hours.
Our surviving family events has become something greater than we ever imagined! As we continue to bring the family members together, soldiers past and present come to rally around them, and through the community and family…. our very own Windy25 family….there is healing and hope for everyone.
