Master Sergeant Edwin A. Matos-Colon was born on January 1, 1963 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico. He was 42 years old and had previously served in Operation Desert Storm with the 82nd Airborne Division. Edwin was assigned to Division Artillery, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Colonel Gary Cheek, commander of Task Force Thunder, said if there were a picture next to the definition of a mechanic in the dictionary, Matos would be there. “He was a man of great enthusiasm, one who would take on any mission, any task.” He was strong and his heart was just as big as his stature.
